Your first GP visit

After discovering you’re pregnant, the first step is to visit your GP.

During this appointment you will be given a pregnancy test to confirm that you are pregnant.

Your GP will then ask about any relevant medical history, previous pregnancies or fertility issues, genetical predispositions and preferences such as an interpreter.

This information will be passed onto your Obstetrician or Midwife ready for your first antenatal appointment and will help make sure you receive the optimal maternity care for your needs.

You will also be given an estimation of how many weeks pregnant you are and a due date based on your last menstrual period.

nb.  You don’t have to decide which hospital you go to at this stage, it’s simply the process to ensure
your pregnancy is logged and you’re booked for a scan and first appointment.
